The Estimate is a biweekly newsletter which has provided political and security intelligence analysis of the Middle East, North Africa, Central and South Asia and the Caucasus since 1989. It has been praised by its loyal readership for its analysis, background information and timeliness.

The Estimate provides an objective intelligence estimate, assessing what is happening and is likely to happen, not pontificating about what should happen. It also seeks to provide those dealing with the region with the background data and nuanced understanding necessary to make their own assessments and decisions.

The Estimate avoids polemics. It is aimed at assessing the situation and potential risks, and at evaluating the potential of differing scenarios. It does not seek to make rhetorical points or advance a particular side in a dispute.

The Estimate is published by The International Estimate, Inc., which also publishes occasional monographs and provides consulting services to corporate and other clients. The Editor and Publisher of The Estimate is Michael Collins Dunn, Ph.D.

Dr. Dunn has lectured and written widely on the Middle East, has taught at Georgetown University and at Utah State University, and has made many national media appearances. Since 1998 he also has served as Editor of The Middle East Journal, published by The Middle East Institute, the oldest academic journal in the field of modern Middle Eastern affairs. (The Estimate has no other connection with the Middle East Institute other than Dr. Dunn serving as Editor of both publications.)
